YLTSIG Mini Course A: Assessment as learning for young learners and teenagers

Join IATEFL Young Learners & Teenagers SIG for this mini course on 'assessment as learning for young learners and teenagers'.

The mini course will run on the 13, 14 and 15 January from 18.00 – 20.00 (UK time) each day.

As part of the ‘Better Together: IATEFL YLTSIG Webconference 2023’ event, YLTSIG is again offering three different minicourses for teachers around the world. The courses are 6 hours long, comprised of 3 sessions of two hours each. You will be required to attend all 3 sessions to complete the course.

Minicourse A: 'Assessment as learning for young learners and teenagers' is being kindly facilitated by TROIKA.

Abstract
Providing students with constant and effective feedback and support has proven to be an important factor to contribute to their academic, social, and emotional needs.  In this mini-course, we will reflect on some principles of classroom assessment; the ideas of assessment of and for learning, and the need for a paradigm shift – from a punitive to an empathetic, constructive way of assessing. We will also discuss the specific needs of primary and secondary learners when it comes to assessment, as opposed to those of adults.
