ESPSIG: 'Effective use of news articles in the ESP classroom: the example of Legal English'

An ESPSIG webinar presented by Tamari Dolidze

News articles are real, relevant, current, and interesting and as such, are especially useful in the ESP classroom. This webinar explores the ways of effectively incorporating articles from the news into the ESP learning process as an invaluable resource for teaching intermediate and more advanced students. News articles can be used equally to expand each of the four skills, or can be used to focus more specifically on only one. This workshop will highlight practical ways in which this can be done. A structured approach to teaching news articles will be presented since, as with all lessons, those centred around the news should be carefully planned and have a clear goal.

Dr. Tamari Dolidze has been actively involved in the academic field since 2004 as an EFL lecturer at Batumi State University (Georgia), where she holds the position of Assistant Professor and teaches ESP courses. Since 2014, she has been employed at Grigol Robakidze University as Associate Professor at the School of Humanitarian and Social Sciences, where she was elected as Professor in December 2019. She has held the position of Associate Professor at Batumi State Maritime Academy since 2017.  Dr. Tamari Dolidze has also been a foreign guest lecturer as well as visiting professor at foreign universities.
