ESPSIG: An Introduction to Aviation English: Current States and Future Challenges
This webinar will introduce the field of Aviation English. Aviation English aims to develop the English language proficiency of aviation personnel, including pilots, air traffic controllers, maintenance technicians, and more. From a policy perspective, it is guided by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Language Proficiency Requirements (LPRs), but the development and implementation of curricula, assessments, and teachers to support the policy are largely unregulated.
Speaker: Jennifer Roberts
Jennifer Roberts serves as an Assistant Professor and the Curriculum Coordinator in the Department of Aviation English at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide, where she focuses on developing and implementing aviation English training and testing programs. She is a Vice President of the International Civil Aviation English Association (ICAEA) and the current Chair of the English for Specific Purposes Interest Section in TESOL International. Before coming to Embry-Riddle, she served as an English Language Fellow in Indonesia through the U.S. Department of State, after receiving her MA in Applied Linguistics and ESL from Georgia State University.
