The Inverted ESP Classroom – fostering student engagement, critical thinking and information literacy skills

The Inverted Classroom Model (ICM) requires students to take responsibility of their own learning. It is a particularly suitable method for teaching ESP since it fosters the exchange and sharing of knowledge, aligning with the needs-based approach promoted for ESP. Furthermore, this methodology requires learners to prepare for lessons, thus allowing them to participate more actively in class. Online tools and learning management systems can assist with creating more engaging pre-class activities.  Essential Future skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, and information literacy can easily be integrated into this setting ensuring that students are prepared for the changing requirements of today’s work world
