Our Chair of the IATEFL Digital Committee, Georgia Papamichailidou and President, Christopher Graham recently spoke at the 14th ELT Malta Conference from 24 – 25 October 2025 at the Old University in Valletta.
Georgia delivered a talk titled The Diary of a Green Leader, as part of our ongoing Action for Green IATEFL initiative. Her session focused on practical techniques that international education leaders can apply within their institutions to promote sustainability, not only of resources, but also of staff wellbeing and the wider environment. She explored three key dimensions of values-based leadership: intergenerational responsibility, leadership decisions, and emotional sustainability.
Chris did a plenary session entitled (What’s So Funny ’Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding?, that explored the extra benefits that come from integrating sustainability into our teaching such as developing students’ empathy, their knowledge base, and their awareness of who in society has and uses agency. Chis ran a follow-up workshop with delegates applying some of the ideas to course materials.
Many thanks to the ELT Council Malta for a great event.
