IATEFL short course session 1: 'Authentic listening - developing decoding skills'

  • A 3-hour practical short course, run by IATEFL, on the topic of 'Authentic Listening - Developing Decoding Skills'.
  • All materials, session recording and certificate of achievement included.

About the course:

What does it mean to ‘do a listening’? Recent experience teaching online might mean more use of authentic video and audio - surely a good thing to take forward whether back face-to-face or not. However, the old approach of answering questions then moving on to the grammar/vocab ‘meat’ of lessons stays strong. Problems students have decoding unscripted speech can remain untouched. Reassurance and further practice are often suggested as the only remedies, so in this workshop, we’ll explore a variety of other possibilities that can support our learners better.  We’ll share material, procedures, techniques and successes teachers have made through online collaboration.
