PronSIG: Understanding intelligibility in pronunciation instruction

Join IATEFL Pronunciation SIG and Victor Medina for this webinar.

This presentation discusses pronunciation instruction in light of seminal studies on intelligibility (Jenkins, 2000) and reflective teaching (Munro and Derwing, 2006; Levis, McCrocklin, 2018). It will discuss the contributions of a communicative teaching framework for pronunciation (Celce-Murcia, 2010) whilst considering fundamental concepts in phonetics and phonology (Thomson, 2018, Walker, 2015). These ideas intend to provide ELT professionals with access to various resources and tools to help them become (even more) aware of what they need to consider when they have to teach pronunciation in their classrooms.
