Apply For The Materials Writing Special Interest Group New Writing Talent Scholarship
This scholarship is sponsored by IATEFL MaWSIG and has been set up to encourage new writing talent within the IATEFL community. The scholarship is open to all IATEFL members who have not had materials previously published professionally. The scholarship applications will be judged by selected MaWSIG committee members.
The scholarship consists of:
- registration for the IATEFL Conference
- registration for the MaWSIG Pre-Conference Event
- a year’s IATEFL and MaWSIG membership
- travel costs, including, if necessary, an economy travel to the UK (this includes the cost of flights and airport transfers but not stopovers,) and a visa to the UK (if required) to attend the IATEFL Annual Conference (with receipts) up to a maximum of GBP 1000.
- GBP 500.00 towards accommodation in Harrogate (5 nights maximum, with receipts).
To qualify you must:
- be a member of IATEFL
- be currently involved in ELT (teacher, teacher trainer, lecturer, etc.)
- not have previously published any language teaching resource or content for which you have received payment
- undertake to write a teaching resource as detailed below for submission by the due date
- be prepared to present your resource at the MAWSIG PCE
- agree to submit a blog post about your conference experience by June 2021, to be published on the MaWSIG blog
To be considered you must submit:
- a lesson which takes a fresh approach to presenting one of the following topics:
- underrepresented groups in society, or
- environment
Finding an original take on one of these topics can be challenging. We would like to see how you approach one of these subjects in a way that is both engaging and appropriate for the student group you choose to target.
Your submission should consist of:
- A lesson for classroom use (max. 500 words)
- An accompanying document to include:
- a full explanation of the teaching aims
- expected outcomes
- teaching context (state school, private language school, university)
- teaching notes
- answer key
- target age group
- target level

The submission deadline is 16.00 (UK time) on Wednesday 29th July 2020. Early submissions are very welcome; late submissions will not be considered.
The results will be announced the week beginning 31st August 2020. Please do NOT contact the IATEFL Head Office about scholarship decisions; the Scholarship Committee will send everyone the results as soon as they are available.
