LTSIG 2022 Australia EdTechSIG and IATEFL LTSIG Joint event- Research Group, Cambridge English Online teaching in the 2020 pandemic: Challenges and Opportunities by Siân Morgan

The 2020 pandemic resulted in institutions all over the world transferring teaching online, with little time for preparation and resourcing. This session outlines the challenges and opportunities encountered by teachers during the initial period.

This session outlines the findings of a study by Cambridge Assessment English analysing teachers’ experiences teaching English online during this period. The aim of the study was to understand whether teaching English online, rather than face-to-face (f2f) had any effect on lesson objectives, learning activities, and classroom dynamics.

The findings suggest that, generally, teachers were in fact able to carry out classroom activities and meet their teaching objectives, but that in some cases this was achieved differently. This presentation will outline the main findings with illustrative examples of teacher comments.
