November Webinar: ‘Leading Inclusive and Effective Language Programs’
We’re excited to invite you to our next webinar on Wednesday, 25 November at 4.00 pm (UK time), featuring educator and scientist Dr Reem Olaby. This promises to be a highly thought-provoking session. Here is the abstract:
Now more than ever, leaders in language education face a challenge in creating inclusive, equitable, and cognitively grounded instructional systems in the face of increased learner variety, multilingualism, and educator exhaustion. Participating in this webinar will give leaders in language education the tools they need to integrate cutting-edge learning research, particularly in the areas of cultural responsiveness, UDL, and cognitive load management. The leadership paradigm will be tackled based on the following: The principle of cognitive load and how overly complex education reduces learner motivation. Long-term linguistic skills are strengthened outside the classroom as well. Hence, leaders need to convey how important it is to teach transfer and strategy use and not just focus on content delivery. This will help language learners use their English language beyond classrooms and tests, they will use it functionally in real-life contexts. Multilingual settings benefit from compassionate and inclusive leadership, which fosters psychological safety and respect for teachers and students. This setting promotes collaboration, equity, and trust, improving deliverables. Backward Design and Evaluation Literacy can help to improve curricular homogeneity and instructor involvement. Participants will discover real-world case studies, leadership concerns, and takeaway approaches to improve teacher practice and learner experience.
2026 Pre-Conference Event: ‘When Change is the Only Certainty’
We’re also delighted to announce that our speakers for the 2026 Pre-Conference Event (PCE) on Monday, 20 April 2026 are now confirmed! We’re thrilled to have Sarah Mercer, Beatrice Segura Harvey, and George Pickering lead us in a full day of interactive workshops. During the day we will:
- discuss the social-emotional impact of change on individuals and teams;
- examine how managers can leverage AI to lead change effectively;
- explore strategies for leading change proactively to enhance individual and organizational capacity and resilience during times of uncertainty.
There will not be an online version of the PCE in 2026, so we do hope that you can make the face-to-face event in Brighton.
What’s coming up?
Join us for our final webinar of the year on December 14 at 4.00 pm (UK time), when Ian Collins will talk us through the practical considerations of strategic planning and review in language programs.
To help us get 2026 underway, Patrícia Ibiapina will take us on a journey as she discusses sustainable teacher development in remote contexts. In this webinar she will draw upon theory and her own ‘Train the Trainer’ experience in Ladakh, a remote Himalayan region in India.
