LASIG: Fostering foreign language learning autonomy through imposed curricula

Brief summary of the SIG event

LASIG deeply regrets to inform you that, due to COVID-19, our conference in Paris (16 May 2020) in partnership with the research group LANGUenACT, member of the research laboratory IMAGER at the University of Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC), the National Institute of Teacher Education for the Academy of Créteil (INSPE-Créteil) has been postponed. We know that many of you had been looking forward to the event, but the health and safety of our members, participants, and organisers must come first.

We will be moving the conference to a date in the future and will be in touch once we know when it will take place. We will let you know as soon as possible about further details.

Until then, we wish you all the very best. Take good care of yourselves and keep safe.

The research group LANGUenACT, member of the research laboratory IMAGER at the University of Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC), the National Institute of Teacher Education for the Academy of Créteil (INSPE-Créteil), and the Learner Autonomy Special Interest Group (LASIG) of the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) are proud to announce a one-day conference.

The event will take place from 9am to 5:30 pm at the ‘Campus Centre’ of the University of Paris-Est Créteil.

The conference will provide attendees with conceptual and practical tools for developing students’ ability to take on greater responsibility for their foreign language learning, both in the classroom and beyond.

Keynote speakers will include David Little, Fellow Emeritus of Trinity College Dublin, teacher educator and former LASIG coordinator Leni Dam, and learner autonomy practitioner Anja Burkert from the University of Graz, Austria. In addition to two pre-prepared Question & Answer sessions to promote more open and in-depth discussion throughout the day, four practical workshop sessions are planned: two focused on developing learning autonomy at the primary school level, and two at the secondary school level.

Students interested in attending should contact Stephen Brewer in order to obtain the promo code. This will give them 100% discount on the booking fees.
