IATEFL short course session 2: 'Practical ideas to keep students at the forefront of the learning experience'

Registration is closed for this event
  • A 3-hour practical short course, run by IATEFL, on the topic of 'Practical Ideas to Keep Students at the Forefront of the Learning Experience'.
  • All materials, session recording and certificate of achievement included.

About the course:

One of the biggest challenges teachers face in a post-pandemic scenario is creating high-quality yet relevant learning experiences for students. These experiences require teachers to unlearn and relearn different skills, including team building in a remote or hybrid classroom, digital literacy, effective feedback, and feedforward. In this context, how can teachers develop collaborative inquiry-based activities which put students at the core of pedagogic processes? Why should teachers engage learners as experts in learning and in technology? How can teachers extend and enrich students’ learning experiences using technology?

In this interactive session, participants will:

  • Discuss a list of criteria that inform the extent to which students can participate in learning planning, goal setting, and evaluating
  • Explore different lesson dynamics that foster collaboration, self and peer correction, learner proactivity, and autonomy
  • Assess how technology can enhance learners’ experience and help them become more independent

The activities presented, and the ideas behind those activities, can be adapted to remote and hybrid settings. Participants will alternate between playing the role of students in an English class and of teachers reflecting on the activities.
