General Guidelines for Scholarships
IATEFL provides an increasing number of different scholarships for English language teaching professionals. If you intend to apply for a Scholarship, here are some simple guidelines that will help you:
- Read the full List of Scholarships, paying attention to the conditions and deadlines for application.
- When you apply you will be asked to supply details from your CV and a 400-500 statement (both in English). We will also ask you to send a passport photo that will be published in our conference literature if you are a winner (so don’t forget to smile!)
- In most cases, the deadline for applications in 2012 was 23 August. However, the following have earlier deadlines which you can find in the List of Scholarships: BESIG Conference Scholarships; Consultants-E Online IATEFL Scholarship; John Haycraft Classroom Exploration Scholarship.
- Teachers cannot win the same scholarship twice. However, winners can apply for a different Scholarship after a period of three years.
- All applicants for each scholarship will be informed of the result by email. If you are a winner, let us know immediately whether or not you will accept the award.
- If you accept, we will discuss details of how the award is to be paid once you have confirmed your acceptance. Most of the award is paid at conference but a proportion can be paid in advance to help with your travel costs.
- Many scholarships now include as part of the award a year's IATEFL membership. If you are already a member and you win one of these awards, the payment will cover your next year's membership.
- If you are applying for a scholarship that requires a speaker proposal for our Liverpool conference the deadline for submission of your speaker proposal was 23 August 2012. It must reach us by the Scholarship application deadline and not later. Members can apply online and non IATEFL members should complete the form below and upload it with their other documents.
