The Gill Sturtridge First-Time Speaker IATEFL Conference Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded from the donations given by the family of Gill Sturtridge and IATEFL members and delegates and is intended to encourage new speakers to give their first talk at an IATEFL Annual Conference.

To qualify applicants must:

  • be a newcomer with between three and ten years' experience in the ELT profession
  • be a first-time speaker at an IATEFL annual conference
  • be a fully paid up individual member of IATEFL

Each scholarship is worth in the region of £300 plus a free registration for that conference.

The award is paid to the speaker at the conference to offset accommodation and travel costs.

No member can be awarded the scholarship more than once.

To be considered applicants are asked to:

  • complete a Speaker Proposal form
  • send a brief curriculum vitae
  • send a passport size photograph
  • send a brief explanation of why they are applying for the scholarship
  • the deadline for the above is the end of September
  • mark their envelopes: "Gill Sturtridge First-Time Speaker Scholarship".

In addition, after the conference, the speaker will be asked to send a 250-word report for IATEFL Voices on his/her impressions of the conference (deadline – 1st June).

The Scholarship Working Party meets to select the successful applicant in October.
