Aberdeen
Aberdeen has many names: The Granite City, The Oil Capital of Europe, The Silver City by the Golden Sands and The Floral City. Each name gives a hint of a special feature. For Aberdeen, Scotland's third city, has many buildings made of granite, one of the hardest and most enduring stones ( Examples are, the turreted Town House, the Citadel and Marischal College).
The discovery of off-shore oil has brought many cultures and nationalities here. Aberdeen is a cosmopolitan metropolis with two universities, a 5 star Maritime Museum and restaurants, coffee shops and tea rooms aplenty.
There's a fine white sand beach less than a mile from the city centre and Aberdeen has won the 'Britain in Bloom' contest many times. Aberdeen-Grampian is stuffed full of castles, coastal roads, golf courses and of course good fishing and whisky! It was a very interesting place for us all to be!
