International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language
Linking, developing and supporting English Language Teaching professionals worldwide
Our objectives are:
1) To provide opportunity for participants to build networks, discuss and share ideas, experiences and expertise on English language teaching
2) To promote and disseminate current trends and research on English language teaching
And 3) To provide a forum for educators, researchers, administrators and those working in various fields to discuss ways of addressing the challenges in teaching English in Asia.
English Language Teaching today is challenging, especially with the rise of "world Englishes" it has become more diverse in its cultures and contexts. In education, research provides information on multiple phenomena such as the efficacy of various instructional approaches, achievement differences between social groups and across countries and the many factors that contribute to school improvement in general (Cummins and Davison 2007).
With your participation in this conference, we will not only present a range of studies exploring English language teaching approaches, methodologies, technologies and common practices but work together and develop sustainable professional networks focused on the long term advancement of ELT related research and knowledge.
Let us meet in this border city to discuss border issues that concern us in our everyday teaching work. The theme of the conference is 'Across the borders - Over the boundaries'
Among fantastic presenters: Marjorie Rosenberg, Evan Frendo, Hugh Dellar, Laura Edwards, Hanna Kryszewska, Jacek Pyżalski, Piotr Stenibrich, Jamie Keddie, Marzena Żylińska and many others
The programme includes:
- more than a hundred lectures, presentations, workshops, and debates devoted exclusively to effective methods of teaching English
- LIFE lessons - a unique opportunity to observe lessons conducted by famous presenters and trainers.
- Oxford Debate
- Presenters from more than 12 countries
Three days you will never forget!
The Conference Programme is tailored to the needs of English teachers, prepared by experienced teachers-practitioners and methodologists, who have developed many effective, often innovative methods of teaching English to different groups of students.
As last year, this years conference will run 4 concurrent sections in the following areas: Teaching YLs, Teaching teens & adults, Using drama in ELT, and Using ICT in ELT.
Our plenaries will reflect both our sections of interest (YL, teens/adults, drama, and ICT) as well the theme we have chosen for this year: Mind the Gap - Connecting Cultures in ELT. As foreign language teachers and educators, we are in the unique position of being able to provide young people with the space and language to communicate across cultures, to facilitate understanding and acceptance among all our students. This - as well as gaining new ELT ideas - is what we want to delve into at this year's conference.
Our own Zuzana Strakova (associate professor at the Institute for British and American Studies, Faculty of Arts, Presov University, Slovakia) will be giving a plenary as well as sharing her expertise on teaching young learners in a 90-minute workshop. The other plenaries are to be announced soon.
